Lovius Ed Program Overview

The Lovius Ed. Holistic Tutoring program incorporates two main sections: Brain Training and Physical & Emotional Function.

The nine focus areas are outlined below. Although all programs potentially contain all focus areas, the design of each group or individual program is adjusted according to the presenting needs.

 BRAIN TRAINING

While there are many aspects to brain training and the science of neuroplasticity (see the table of activities for more information), Lovius Ed. focuses on four areas:

Fluid Intelligence (problem solving skills that are analytical, collaborative, critical thinking and creative)

Memory (including long and short term memory, and retention which is remembering with meaning)

Auditory Processing (incorporating foreign language, music and processing instructions)

Attention span

 PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL FUNCTION

There are three areas of Physical & Emotional Function covered in the program, as outlined below:

Sensory perception (particularly visual perception)

Fine motor skills (hand-eye coordination, improving dexterity and handwriting)

Meditation & anti-stress strategies (including self esteem and anxiety)

It is expected that all Lovius Ed participants will support their own program by giving good attention to the other three aspects of Physical and Spiritual Function:

Regular exercise

Sleep hygiene

Balanced diet

What happens first ....

All participants are assessed using a numerical grading on a number of skills. Each participant seeks to improve on their own scores and is never assessed against another participant.

Once assessment is completed, a program is established for approx. 5 weeks and then re-assessed at the end of that period.

Students must commit to home practise of approx. 10 - 30 minutes each day, depending on their program and age.

What happens at tutoring ....

A typical 60 minute Holistic Tutoring Session may look like this:

TIMEACTIVITY

10:00Stroop test

5:00Music scales I

10:00Tower of Hanoi game

5:00Memory tray game

10:00Juggling practice

5:00Music scales II

10:00Learning French colours, aural & written (group)

5:00Meditation or stress management strategies (group)

60:00

What happens at home ....

At home, participants practise 10 -30 min per day, for example: French language and juggling. Parents commit to facilitating the three key areas of Physical and Emotional Function: regular exercise, sleep hygiene and a balanced diet. These seem logical and quite ordinary, but it’s amazing how frequently we slip in these areas.

Lovius Ed. provides information on how to effectively protect and facilitate Physical and Emotional Function at home. Some of our ideas might surprise you!
